Nogueira Winery
The Sta. Mª de Nogueira winery is located in the Ribeira de Chantada on the slopes of the Miño River, Municipality of Chantada - Lugo. Our winery is a company under the Ribeira Sacra Denomination of Origin created in 1998. It is a winery with a family tradition that has been operating since the 1960s; In May 2017 it passed into the hands of Don Pedro Yáñez, improving both the winery and the different brands that are made in it and incorporating more than 70 hectares of vineyards.
The winery is installed in the heart of Chantada, an area that is distinguished by its natural and scenic wealth, and with a capacity for 450,000 liters.
Our vineyards
Most of the vineyard is planted on mountainous slopes with an altitude that exceeds 300 meters. Our vineyards are over 50 years old with a production per vine of approximately 3 kg.
The cultivation is completely manual, it is harvested in small boxes that are uploaded by hand to the transport vehicles, most of the plots being small and very steep, which makes it a difficult and expensive task.
In the vineyards we control both the ripening process and the selection of the best bunches, trying to obtain the best and highest quality from each vine, also ensuring that they do not exceed 3 kg per vine.
The Denomination of Origin Ribeira Sacra
The Ribeira Sacra is a Denomination of Origin that has 5 sub-zones: Amandi, Quiroga, Chantada, Ribeirado Miño and Ribeira do Sil. A part of the Denomination of Origin is in the Province of Ourense and the majority in that of Lugo.
Most of the vineyards are planted in terraces and at high altitudes on the rivers Miño, Sil and Cabe; in many cases exceeding 650 meters of altitude.
Galicia is a region well known for its young wines, considered sincere wines because they provide their varieties and all the aromatic and flavorful potential with no other process than good maturity, good health and good health.
